Feb. 8 2021 UPDATE: Tim Smith is a Professor of Cognitive Psychology at Birkbeck College, University of London and he has been an inspirational pioneer in eye tracking and film studies. Because I am a filmmaker and film scholar (and a non-cognitive psychologist!), Tim’s work and feedback has been super helpful in formulating my own ideas on perception. Tim kindly emailed after watching Amuse-œil and mentioned that one of his earliest eye tracking experiments used the exact scene in Citizen Kane that Amuse-œil obsesses over!
